While sitting in this garden at the beautiful sustainable farm called "Spannocchia" in Tuscany, I met a young woman who had worked at the farm years ago and now had returned with her own family as guests.

She told me that the phrase, "Piano, Piano" was their mantra as interns. They were to walk softly, treat the land gently. Thus the use of the musical notation "piano," which refers to a directive that a piece or section should be played softly. It is derived from the Italian word for "soft."
